When the ice cream van plays a tune it's out of ice cream?

After talking with a friend a couple of days ago and mildly complaining about the frequency in which the ice cream van comes around he let me in on what he was told as a child.If the van is playing a tune then sadly it means the ice cream van is all out of ice cream! I felt the child within me feeling very indignant at such a lie while the mother in me thought to the constant begging as soon as the annoying popeye theme tune starts jingle jangling.Compromise? When the popeye tune plays the only flavour left is spinach,thats why he's playing popeye (i never said he was out of ice cream!).
